Haddon Carpet Anemone

Hi all! So as this hobby works, I went to my LFS to purchase some supplies and I ended up walking out with a beautiful Haddon Carpet Anemone. I've have this beauty for a few days now and it looks very healthy. It's foot is already planted in the sand and hasn't attempted to move anywhere else.

When I first put it in my tank, it spit up a large silverside that I obviously assume my LFS fed it. It has been two days since that happened and it still looks in great condition. I have 3 clowns that have showed little interest in hosting it. I sprayed some mysis shrimp in it to get the clowns close up to it. The anemone grabbed one of the clowns, I had to make a strong effort to save it.

I've since then fed it silversides in which it devoured in 10 minutes showing me that it is very healthy. The clown who got caught was the outsider of the pair who I have in my tank. He's a little runt and perhaps not that healthy? Although he looks and was very healthy before getting caught. Was my anemone underfed and hungry to have it try eating the clown? I'm hoping to be able to develop this clown-anemone relationship. I already have a shrimp who was ecstatic to see me put this anemone in my tank.

I've done my research and was hoping I could get some of Reef Centrals finest opinions and experiences with there beautiful anemones as I hope to make this work.

Thanks!!

Ok 1st let me say welcome to the haddoni club :) Now these are just my opinions so take the for what they are worth :) Never feed silverside !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These guys like low flow. If you change your flow pattern they may move. are your powerheads covered ??

What type of clowns are you trying to keep with them ? Not all clowns are naturally hosted. Mine host a trio of A. Ocellaris. but it took a little while for them to acclimate to the nems. Your clown was stung to death. It takes them a while to build up their slime coat/immunity.

The nems don't really hunt for food, their tentacles just react to being touch by the flesh of you or your fish. And fire nematocysts into the skin, then draw the food into their mouths.

Smaller feedings are enough. you can over feed these guys. Small pieces of food are best. I rarely feed mine. I broadcast meaty food for my fish.

They like pretty strong light. And they WILL eat other fish no problem. Very strong sting. Some people are allergic.

Love these guys :)

Good luck :)

just messed around the tank without gloves last night.. my green Haddoni caught my thumb and won't let go.. I also happen to have a cut there..

got some swelling and red bumps on my hand now..

don't under estimate these carpets!

I currently have two ocellaris clowns who have not hosted it yet. The third clown who got stung did end up dieing last night.

My LFS has a beautiful pair of gold bar maroon clowns. Would those be compatible with the nem?

Maybe but Probably not, Maroons natural host is a BTA

I got a few of haddoni in the past, they move on their own, can know down rock since mine was like 14"
sweet coral if they stay in place

yes they are very strong. very easy for them to knock over your rocks while trying to set their foot. And yes the Nem is the host. I have yet to see Maroons hosted by this Nem. If yours do, please post a picture !! Remember Maroons Bite Hard :0 beautiful fish though.
Good luck
