Haddoni and Gigantea Compatibility

I have been searching for a premium anemone for my 93 gallon cube for some time now. Although my ideal choice was a blue S. Gigantea, I recently "settled" for a red S. Haddoni because I have been unable to find a Gigantea and was able to get the red Haddoni (which was very healthy and had been at the LFS for months) for a very good price.

But wouldn't you know, a nice blue Gigantea has just shown up at a local LFS! Thus my question: can these anemones co-exist or will they sting each other? There is enough space in a large center area of the tank for both of them, but they would likely brush up against each other occasionally. I know that anemones of the same species (e.g. 2 haddonis) can touch without a problem, but what about different species of the same genus?

Here is the definite answer: It depends.

Many people on here have kept haddonis and giganteas together for years without problems so it is definitely possible.
Myself and others, however, have had issues. My haddoni went downhill fast after adding my gig and only recovered when I moved the haddoni to its own tank. Others have reported issues with giganteas apparently causing issues with other well-established anemones in their tanks upon introduction of the gig.
The other issue I see is that two carpets are going to fill a huge portion of that tank as they grow. The gig alone will be capable of filling up a 24" area of your 30" tank.
If you have another system that can house one of the carpets in the event of issues, then I would give it a shot. Without a fall back plan, I don't know that I would risk two relatively rare and pricey anemones.
Oh yeah, let's not forget the risk of one anemone infecting the other is one proves to be sick. If you decide to do both together, I would quarantine the gig until you are sure it is healthy before adding it in with the haddoni or you could risk losing both.

Good luck

From my friend and mine experiences yes and no... I for one couldn't put any different species of carpet in one system but my friend on the other hand has no problem with mixing 4 different kinds of anemone in one system. He has 1 RBTA, 1 haddoni, 1 gig, and 1 helianthus in one tank/system. I think it could be that his system is well over 200 gallon. The bigger the water volume I think different species and co exist but we need more evidence. For your system I think it is pretty small for two carpets to co-exist. Sell the red had and buy the gig if that is what you really want.

New Green haddoni

New Green haddoni

I've been waiting for another haddoni to go in the tank with the red haddoni and finally found one. It's a bright green one and pretty small but the price was amazing and I bought it up. It's acclimating just fine and looks to have found a great spot in the tank it can spend quality time with the red:beer:

I got two right next to each other, touching with no significant problem. Going on for several months. Other Gignatea and Haddoni living together in same tank without carbon and not touching for at least 2 years with no problem.
