Haddoni carpet with kole tang. Any experiences?

Hey everyone. Just ordered a 9 inch haddons carpet anemone. I have 2 clarkiis in a 50 gallon with a small kole tang. Am I taking a big risk having the kole tang in the tank with the carpet?

I have another tank but I am unsure If my bioload is too much to add the kole tang. I have a 3 inch yellow tang, 4 inch blue spot naso (temporary), 3 inch lamarks angel, 2 inch clown, 1.5 inch flame hawk, 1.5 inch royal gramma. Do I have anymore room?

I have heard the carpets are fish Eaters but, I assume that most fish have some sort of awareness to stay away.

Any experiences or opinions are very helpful:beer:

What size is the other tank? If it is the 90 in your sig it is already over its "tang limit"

As for the 50, IMO, it is too small for a tang anywise, and you are taking a chance with it in a small tank that has an S. Haddoni.

Yeah sorry the other tank is the 90. The kole tang is in the 50 for the mean time until I give the blue spotted naso away. I know that I maybe taking a Risk with the carpet and the kole tang but I have a very simplistic rock scheme so the tang has plenty of room to swim for a 50. Todd I know you have had success with other fish in your system with carpets but how large has your system been?

I currently have 4 Haddonis, they are in; 33 cube, 58, and a 75. The one that has been with me for 12 some years has spent most if its time in the 75, but for the last year has been in the 33 -- which has a pair of SI percs and for the last month my Potter's dwarf angel.

So you have the hadonni in a tank with another fish besides a clownfish correct? I am not attached to the kole tang, I would be willing to get a different kind of fish but I I don't know what would be a good fish to mix with the clarkiis and the carpet.

Yea, I have other fish with them. In my 58 I have a mated pair of pink skunks, a golden lawnmower blenny, a golden angel and a venustus angel -- the pink skunk pair makes sure that no one gets near their Haddoni.

Well thats good to hear, how large is the anemone in the 58? I think i might just add the kole to the 90. The tangs i have in there are very passive. When i added those two tangs into the tank at seperate times, they could care less about each other. The bioload in the 90 is still pretty low, right now its running great even without a cleanup crew. Im going to get some CUC in there to help with an addition of another fish.

Im going to update with some pics of the new anemone tomorrow when i receive him. He is being shipped and i know sometimes they do not ship well. Im going to drip acclimate with only the atnics on for about 2 hours. If you have any other suggestions about how to acclimate, that would be great. Thanks for all your help.

Evan

The one in the 58 is about 10 inches across.

The two in my 75 are a bit bigger, but so far I haven't lost any fish to them,

How has the yellow tang been? Does he go near the anemones and pick around them? when you turn your lights off does he scurry away like mine? has he ever been close to them or does he tend to stay away?

I want to say that I have had the yellow for about 6 months now -- give or take a month. Doesn't scurry away, but does go to its "sleeping" spot. My lights go off in stages, first the MH, then the T5's and lastly the moonlights. It will go near the anemones all the time, picking at the rocks and getting any food that floats that way.

Ok, so your opinion in the end is no, its too risky to have the kole in the 50. Lol right?

Just an FYI, I've had a kole, yellow and Naso in my 75 with a haddoni for 6 months now without problem. There is a pair of clowns in the haddoni. My 300 was supposed to be setup a couple months back. You know how that goes. Anyway progress is being made, so bigger quarters are ahead. Just wanted to post to let you know it's possible to have a kole with a haddoni

Thanks for the input its greatly appreciated. I am still considering keeping him in there but the only problem i see him running into is when i turn out the lights. I have a 250w mh and 2 24w atinic t5s which i turn off at separate times to ease the dark coming on and still the kole tang seems to scurry right when the last light goes off. I am concerned that he will scurry right into the anemone and that will be the end of it...

No matter how many people say they have kept or are keeping non-clowns with their haddonis, you have to realize there is always a chance that your haddoni carpet will eat your fish. That's just what they do.
I have keep some generic tangs and dwarf angels with my haddonis. Some were eaten and some weren't. I would ever keep an expensive/rare/favorite fish with a haddoni. Its just too much of a meal waiting to happen.

Good point phender, i think i am going to keep him in there with the anemone. I think that fish have some sort of common sense... but if not i think its their fault

IMHO, mixing a haddoni with a tang that's not comfortable in its captive home, is a death sentence for the tang. Fish can learn to avoid these anemones, but it's kinda hard when the fish is swimming for its life every night. Once the fish calms down, the odds of success goes way up.
