Haddoni or Gigantea?

Is this a haddoni or gig? I don't have the pics from the bottom of the anemone b/c these aren't mine pics. Just curious what you carpet gurus think.

Can you please elaborate? Based on what conclusion did you lean towards a haddoni rather than a gig?

The things I looked at were the tentacles and the mouth. Very typical of haddoni. Gigantea have longer tentacles and a little farther apart.

gigantea.

IMO nobody can be certain what species of anemone this is based solely on the picture provided.

I agree with Gary. Stressed but otherwise healthy Gigantea may look just like that. FWIW, I agree to buy my Blue Gigantea by looking at a picture of an anemone very similar to this picture, thinking it was a Haddoni. Once I see it at the LFS, I can tell right away that it is a Gigantea. Fortunately for me, it was healthy. I luck out and got a good Gigantea instead of a blue Haddoni which is a much better anemone for me.

I called the place and they said it was a haddoni. It was also priced in the range of a haddoni. We'll see when I get it delivered on Thursday. :bounce1:

Yeah, it looks healthy in the pic. I'd be very surprised if it's not a haddoni. They tend to be a relatively hardy anemone and are natural host to several species of clownfish including A. akindynos, A. clarkii, A. polymnus and A. sebae.

Fautin and Allen's book Anemone Fishes and their Host Sea Anemones is a good guide for identification of all the host species of anemone as well as all the clownfishes. I have it and highly recommend it. However, it is purely a field guide and isn't useful in terms of aquarium husbandry. I would say for information on maintaining this species in an aquarium, research online, especially WetWebMedia and RC, should provide answers for most any question you might have regarding care of this commonly imported carpet species.
