Hair algae gone- now time to take down the tank

So, after 2-3 years of battling hair algae, combating it with water changes, media reactors, sea hares, CUC's, mangroves, high tech m levels, replace lights, reduce photoperiod lights, new skimmer and more, its finally gone!

I dont know what finally did it but, now that its gone, its time to take down the tank. :(

Im having my first baby in Sept, and I dont want the tank in my living room, and I want to reduce my costs by not doing halides, sps, or dosing.

Instead, Im doing a tank in the basement just for shrooms. I will have to do less maintence and it will just be less stress.

Im doing 4 kinds of shrooms, St. Thomas, Florida Ric's, Rhodactis, and Discomoma Carlengni. Basically- more rare shrooms. When I start, Ill do a build thread. If anyone has any rare mushrooms, Im always interested.

(p.s.), this is a different shroom tank than the one I have at school, those are hardier discoma actinodiscus shrooms

sad to hear but congratulations on the baby new and enjoy your new shroom tank . there are some really amazing ones to be found.

Congrats on the kid! I have 2 myself :)

Mushroom tanks have always interested me. I'm surprised there aren't more out there. I'll be following your build thread.

Wish I could say the same for my hair algae. My tank is coming down because of it. Congrats on the baby though! Good luck with the new tank.

congrats as well! I'd say you're making a wise decision as you can never leave the hobby but simplifying with kids coming is a good solution.

Congrats on the kid! Hey at least you know you can get rid of ha if you have too. Pics of a shroom build under actinics would look awesome.

Have you considered simplifiying your setup as opposed to taking it down??

Fish only would still be very rewarding. Also kids love staring at the fish. When my daughter was younger we would park her in her high chair in front of the tank while we cleaned up after dinner or took care of other things around the house. Even today, if she is crying, I'll bring her in front of the tank and she'll nearly stop crying instantly as soon as she sees the fish.

Both of my kids love the tank and watching the fish swim around. Both of mine would also stop crying as soon as I sat in front of the tank with them.

I dont want the tank in the living room while the baby is young, theres too much cords, supplements, powders, liquids and basically crap around that I just don't feel safe about having a crawling baby near.

this move will also make my life easier since the new tank would be right next to my ro unit so no lugging water upstairs, and right next to a sink so water changes will be easier. Plus, I can lock the door and have no worries with the baby.

Maybe after some time I would do a fish only because they are cool and wouldn't have to worry about lighting and quite so clean water.

Plus, I want to propagate some rare shrooms which is a market that I think is pretty unrepresented. So, I think just a new phase for me.
