As the title says , recently got hair algae growth in my overflow. Grows right in the teeth of the over flow. Any suggestions on how to rid for good?

Run lights for 5-6 hours a day feed less ...i had a huge hair algae farm growing in my tank. If it spreads than get yourself a nice brush and start scrubbing your rocks and up your clean up crew ( i got a sea hair slug and it cleaned most of it up). One of those things you gotta go through if you gotta reef tank

Just get yourself a stiff brush and use this to remove the algae. Make sure to run a filter sock or something to catch all the debris once it hits the sump. GL.

Letting algae grow in the teeth of the overflow is like playing with fire IMO. An abundance of it could cause the DT to overflow one day. Not good. :thumbdown

Then your nitrates and phos is to high.

You need to address the cause not the symptom.

They both take different methods to deal with.

In this case treating the cause often takes care of the symptom.

Once you address the cause, yes a brush helps remove some of the symptom as not to negatively effect the cause.

I use large water changes and I recently started a ATS as a free method to address P and N

I'd try to keep the overflow clear to minimize flood risk - like a chunk breaking off and clogging a pipe, or whatev. I think you want your drains unobstructed as much as possible. Shading and scrubbing can help that immediate issue, plus all the normal stuff to knock down nutrients for long term reduction in algae.
