Hair Algae OK in Refugium?

I have a 90 gl sw reef set up with a refugium. I have decided to clean it up because all of the macro algae I placed in there a few years ago is gone and the refugium has been overrun with hair algae (although my display tank is hair algae free).

I am in the process of pulling out the refugium water and replacing it with new salt water. Should I allow the hair algae to remain? Should I put back the rocks that had hair algae growing on them? Should I add some new macro algae such as chaetomorpha?

Confused...any help would be appreciated!

If it's taking up the nutrients that produce it in the main tank, I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep exporting it bit at a time.

I'm going with sk8er on this one, If the hair algae in your fuge is getting out of control, cull some of it out of there, That's cool! your fuge is doing the job you want it to do, right?

Thanks to both of you...helped me out quite a bit! After eight long hours of work, my refugium is fairly well cleaned up now and ready for some additions of macro-algae...would a batch of chaetomorpha be nice? If so, how much should I fill the refugium with it?

Just get a ball the size of your fist and it will grow in no time. If you can get more fine but I wouldn't waste a lot of money on it since you are just going to let it grow then throw it out (or give to another reefer).
