Hello there.

I received my first hairy mushroom from online. What do they look like when they are stressed? He doesnt look hairy at all. He looks sort of like he sucked in his Hairy-ness. Do they usually do this upon entry to a new aquarium?

Thanks,

Christian Almen

Mine always fold in on themselves, and look like a rose bud whenever they get moved. A picture might help.

You may just want to wait a while. I'm sure it'll be fine. Mushrooms are pretty hardy in a general sense. Many times when a mushroom is stressed, It's mouth will be "gaping" or open. Its usually white with some ribs. They may also have some guts oozing out of them. They usually look like white strings. And of course, it'll be either balled up or shriveled up. Just give it some time to acclimate to your tank and everything will probably be a-ok

If you think of it as a smooth surfaced tounge, it has only a handful of "Swollen Taste buds" It isn't covered to give it the hairy effect, like this picture from where i ordered it. Will they other "Taste buds" still emerge through? It looks like there isn't any.

Here's the photo from the site:

Its mouth looks kinda gappy, i would just leave it in lower light and not mess with it so much. Its gone through shipping and re-acclimating, last thing you want to do is stress it some more
