halide question

ive gotta 125 gallon reef tank and wanted sps, 2 questions:
are 2 400 metal halide 12k lamps enough, also are w/ 12k lamps are attinic flourecents needed? if anyone has a suggestion to better improve this idea would appreciate that as well. thanks

2 400MH, 12000 with 2 T5 actinics would be good IMO

how many watts would the t5s need to be?also, what do u think about those generic ebay t5 kits?

I like BurntOutReefers' idea. The attinics arn't a nesnecessity but they sure would make for a much nicer apperance and you could do the dusk and dawn thing. The sps's may even show better colors.

yeah i checked those out, ive been following the thread. i am defenitly the brokest reefer out there, the aquatraders is right up my alley. the guy at the lfs today recommended 2 400 halides w/ 20k bulbs he said w/ the 20ks i wouldnt need any flourescents, but i thought halides only needed to run around 5-6 hours, but he stated he runs theirs for 13hrs a day. they grow frags there and have nice stock. whattya think? 2 20ks no flourecent? is it doable over a 6ft long 18"high tank? i didnt want to get 3 cuz i got that stupid plexiglass thing that crosses over the center of the tank which ime sure will get dirty and filter out all the good uv

You could go for 2 14000K 400W and then you won't need actinics.
