Halides and nuisance algae

I have had halides installed for two weeks and my gravel in the bottom of my tank is gradually going green and brown. Has anyone experience this, and if so, does it subside? If not, what do I do? I have in the last week installed a refugium to get nitrates below 15ppm. Nitrates are still falling and weekly water changes are taking place also.

Tank set up 6 months - had T5's. Two weeks ago installed 2 x 150 watt 14K halides and 2 x actinics, and on Saturday installed refugium.

I had a bloom as well when I upgraded from PC to MH

my guess is allot of phosphate/nitrates in my tank and the light just fueld the fire so to speak

My freind has a 55, All brand new with 2 175's. And nothing but live rock from my tank. And WOW. He's got a bloom really BAD. He just added a few snails today. Tanks been running now for about a month man did it turn green -------- FAST

IMO, anytime you increase the light on your tank you will get a bloom of some sort. For me, diatoms bloomed. However, nothing clean up crew and good husbandry can't handle.

Did you acclimate to the lights? Just adding new lights can spark a bloom (specialy MH)
