Love the new Diamond Goby I got for my tank....Problem is the Falco Hawkfish terrorizes him & tries to nip him every time he comes out to feed....I have resigned myself that I can't have cleaner shrimp because he will eat them but what is the deal with a peaceful goby that doesen't even eat from the water colums the same as a hawkfish....Does anyone have any suggestions how to catch the Hawkfish & take him back to the LFS....Do they sleep at night & I could sneak up on him??? I don't think I can trap him....Need suggestions????

YOu need to lose one or the other, or remove the hawkfish for a "timeout" and try it.

I just got rid of my spotted hawkfish. After he did nothing in my old 55 FO tank I opted to move him to my 180 reef. He then terrorized that tank for about a month, lost both firefish, pretty sure he is why my midas blenny jumped. Got him out and moved back to my new 55 set up. I added a small diamond goby and he proceeded to flat kill it in about 5 minutes.

I really think that if you want a hawkfish, they need to be the last fish added, and they better have bigger fish then them as tank mates.

Just my experience.

Awe...keep the Goby! I have a Diamondback Goby and it is my favorite fish, very entertaining. I've heard about a lot of issues with hawkfish recently...

i had a diamondback goby and i thought it was a very fun fish to have....the only problem is it would keep kicking up sand...which bugged my bf..hahahah...i still liked it... i say keep the goby!

How did you catch him to move him?????

I had a speckled Hawkfish that terrorized everything in my 30g, made my littlke high fin goby disappear. So I had a much larger Flamehawk in my 90 which i figured would teach that speckled a lesson. In the 90 went the speckled and the flamehawk went after it for about 5 minutes then they were buddies...

Something else that I have noticed after having both, Flamehawk and speckled Hawk in my 90g is that the Flamehawk is much more laid back. I will never have a tank without a flamehawk.

As a matter of fact, we lost our hawkfish in a power outage in January and we were lucky enough to have found that our LFS has 2 that were about 1 1/4 inch, so we picked them both up.

And about the shrimp, I have always had shrimp with my Hawks, and never seen them go after the shrimp at all. I have had skunks and currently have a couple fire shrimp. As a matter of fact, the hawks are the only fish in my tank that will allow the cleaner to clean them. The sit there and get the inside of their mouths cleaned and all. I think 9 times out of 10, your hawks (I only have experience with speckled and Flamehawks) will not touch the shrimp if feed properly.

My spotted never touched my shrimp, but sat there staring at them most of the day, as if saying, "how can I get you in my mouth."

that resulted in my shrimp not coming out during the day.

Caught the Hawkfish with a fish trap....Took 4 days....He is now safely in my sump & the sand looks cleaner by the day!!!
