hammer assessment!

is it possible my hammer is spliting. the sides of the hammer are good but the middle keeps on shrinking. all my other corals and anemone are doing well!

um, that would be a no on splitting. it's dieing. you better check your numbers, do a water change. it ain't happy and somethings going on
 
Looks to be dying to me too... I've had a hammer do that in the past, but it was because my tangs eat the gravel, poop it out on the coral, and with not enough flow, the gravel accumulates, and keeps it from expanding, killing parts of it. I upped my flow, now no problems. This happened years ago before I figured out why it would be the only part of a coral going down hill. Not saying that's your problem, but that was mine a while back.
 
The way that one looks, with the outside looking fine, and the middle dead, I'd watch to make sure a fish is nipping at it.
 
That is a wall hammer not a branching one . They get larger they do not split . Definitly check out your water condition.
What are your parameters?
What kind of light and flow does it get?

They can regenerate tissue If conditions are right
