Hey All - I just purchased this nice peace of hammerhead coral from the lfs almost a week ago. My water params are good, lighting good. It hasn't really opened up like it was in the lfs tank when I bought it. Please share you opinions and experiences as I'm at lost. Thank you.

How much flow do you have in your tank? If you to much flow directed at it that will keep it from opening up. You have a pic?

I have it in an area of medium flow. No pic sorry. Thanks for your response.

It could have been damaged in shipping, they are not the hardiest corals, once acclimated though it should open up fine if its in good condition.

Try moving it to an area with lower flow. The ones I have are smaller where the flow is greater and bigger where the tank is quieter.

It looked great in the tank at the LFS. No damage. It was opened huge now it barley opens.

How much light do you have it in compared to the LFS? The colonies in my son's nano cubes are easily 3 times more expanded under the pc's than the mother colony of the same coral under my MH's.

Mine took some time to adjust to a higher light. It looks like you have T5. Where do you have it placed? Lower in the tank to start may help. Also, do you have any fish bothering it? Maybe a clown trying to host? Lastly, mine sometimes just take a "day off". This is sometimes followed by the appearance of a bubble and then the heads split.

It's sitting on the bottom of the tank in a low flow area. I don't have ay fish that would be bothering it. It looks like it is falling apart now. I think it might have died. I'm not sure why though. Everything else in my tank is thriving.

It's much brighter than the LFS. I have 2 55watt VHO T5's and 2 96 watt PC's. But I jus looked at it and it seems to be balling apart. Never seen this happen before.

I would agree with the lighting and the flow being the issue, with these you have to play around with where their home is. As I'm sure you also know you have to be careful when placing this near other corals because they have sweeper tentacals that can sting other corals. Here is a pic of mine, it came from MH to my pc's and acted about the same, only problem I had was with flow.

I just looked closer at it with a flash light and i think all the brown algea is being purged from it b/c there is this brown mucus sitting on top of and the skeleton is showing. I think the little guy might have passed.
