Hammerhead throttleing back?

I am pretty sure you can throttle back a reeflo hammerhead pump on the output side. Is there a certain process to do this because when we tried this the pump started getting noisy and didn't sound right. Do I run it wide open and then slowly close a ball valve? Thank you

No experience with that pump, I'm using a couple of Dart super gold.

Almost any pump should be able to be turned down as you metioned with a ball valve. To the pump it's the same as more head pressure fro having to pump higher.

Putting a ball valve on the output and throttling it back is not a problem. However, how much were you throttling it back? If you were closing the valve a lot you would benefit more by purchasing a Barracuda impeller and swapping it out for the Hammerhead impeller that's in the pump now. This will allow you to push less flow without restricting as much, or at all, thus getting better efficiency out of the motor.

Thanks guys. Jeremy, I have the barracuda impellar but it is warped. Reeflo is sending out another one to replace it. That will be the route when it comes in. So for now I will just throttle back the hammerhead. Thanks again
