handy tool for water changes

After I finished plumbing my tank a while back, I made this out of the parts I had left over. It's easy, cheap, and SUPER handy.

The thin tube coming out of the top is standard air line hose. The rest is an assortment of basic PVC stuff.

Hang it on your tank, close the ball valve, suck the air out via the air hose and allow water to fill the outer tube. Close the air line (I use a standard el cheapo plastic air valve from the LFS, not pictured), open the ball valve and wooooosh - water is a flowin.

I have a 20' section of vinyl hose that I attach to the barb fitting to drain the water outside (no carrying buckets around). I also have a 2' section of hose for smaller jobs, filling buckets, whatever.

I did that same thing for my closed loop setup, it's just a pain in the butt to get it started.

I forgot to mention - use the clear air hose, that way you can see if you're sucking up water BEFORE it gets to your mouth.
