Hang-On-Back Skimmers

Hey guys,
I have a 36g tank that I'm using an AquaC Hang on Back (HOB) skimmer on. I'm really not impressed with how it's doing and the huge box attachment that goes in the tank to hold filter media is simply too massive for my tank.

I'm looking for a better alternative. Does anyone have any experience with the various types of HOB skimmers and could give me some suggestions/information on what all is out there?

Specifically, I'm looking at the Red Sea Prizms and the CPR BakPak ones.

The main thing I want to keep available though is some way to add filter media to them. Things like the Carbon bags and such to aid in water quality should I need them in the future.

Any and all feedback you guys can give is greatly appreciate guys!

Thanks in advance

On my 75g, I run a Remora without the pre-filter box and use a separate HOB power filter to run filter media when I need it.
Saves space in the tank and adds flow. I've used this set up for about five years on this tank and think it's a good set-up for a sumpless system. I don't think most other HOB skimmers will out perform the Remora...certainly not the BakPack or Prizm.
FWIW,

Get the Rogue Wave from Bermuda. You will not regret it as it is one of the best out there. The Remora & Urchins are really a joke! Then again, there have been mixed results on those, but why take the chance?

The Rogue Wave is an excellent choice in both performance and price. Unless you want to go ahead and get a Deltec which will cost almost twice as much.

I've never heard of the Bermuda Rogue Wave.

Nor could I find it on either MarineDepot or DrsFosterandSmith (these are the only 2 online retailers I've dealt with).

Do you have a specific deltec one I should look at too?

Yeah, they're not on there.
they have them on toofishy.com and FragFarmer.com
if you go to bermudaaquatics.com you'll see a list of vendors that perhaps might be in your area. Take a look at the sponsor forums and you'll find them there as well.

They are top of the line skimmers and just as good as the deltecs maybe even better but without the price tag Deltec has. I've owned both brands and the Rogue takes my vote.

If you wish to go with Deltec I belive the MCE300 will take good care of your tank.

I love my remora, brews me about a 1/4-1/2 inch black gunky skimmate daily on my 46 gallon. I just disliked the bubbles and noise, but the noise is toned down about 80% with the plastic cover mod. And you shouldn't have problems with the bubbles because you have the pre-filter box.. Honestly, unless you want to dish out the insane price for the deltec.. I would stick with the remora..

The remora's are junk. for a 36g tank you'll be best with a octo 100f. I think marinesolutionsinc.com is the only place with them in stock and reefspecialty is supose to have them soon. You will wonder what your remora was doing after you put this skimmer on.
