How do you think this will do in a 30g. It's basically a nano reef, about 20lbs of live rock, right now no corals but I might pick up 2 or 3 when I get new lights, nothing major. I am looking for the cheapest skimmer I can find that will work. I plan on turning it on every 3 days for a little bit. Hmm then that would make that refuge pointless haha... well what do you recommend for a cheap non aggressive skimmer but one that will work and has a chance of lasting a few years.

First off... don't just turn on a skimmer for a day or two a week. This will cause the skimmer to need broken in again and cause micro-bubble problems. It's best to leave the skimmer on 24/7 ( besides turning it off for cleaning. ) Also, the skimmer/fuge combo you posted isn't the best and aquatraders does have some horrible feedback. Save up and get a Tunze 9002 or 9005. Good, reliable compact skimmers. :)

thanks for the info, but I guess I should explain that my tank isnt going to be a real reef, basically fowlr, but I do plan on maybe getting new lights which might allow me to have some corals. I just think that Tunze is to nice, I just think it would be overkill for my tank, if I had a stocked nano reef then Ide want to spend the extra cash, I want the skimmer to help out on water changes mostly. This setup was stuff I had laying around and was going to be for a mantis shrimp since I don't have a sump. But having that skimmer might be handy if i ever make a nice small reef someday.

Basically I think a cheap skimmer not a fancy one fits my needs better. I cant see them selling them if they dont even work at all, it has to skim some junk out of the water. I dont want to spend 75 on a pos and get ripped off, $30-40 would be nice. Ive seen cheap $10-20 ones that use wood airstones on ebay, very very basic, but i thought it might skim something, anyone have any cheap skimmer ideas or should I just invest in something nice so I always have it around?
