Hanna Checker P04

Im looking at getting one of these testers as they have a good review. My question is how many tests do you get with a single tester?

One reagent pack = one test.
The new Checker comes with 10 or so reagents, refill packages come with more.
You can look them up on bulk reef supply.

That doesn't seem very cost effective for $50. Is it really worth it? Are there other P04 tests that are vert accurate that you get more tests with?

It seems you would have an initial 50$ investment. BRS has 25 pack of reagents for 8$. So after you have the checker, it costs you 32 cents per test.

It's a good tester, IMO. Just make sure to get the ULR phosphorous one (HI736) and not HI713. You get 6 tests initially and each reagent pack contains 25.

The reagents are only $8. Most people go with the Hanna checkers not for cost savings but more for accuracy and ease of reading the results. I have the Hanna checkers for Alkalinity, Calcium, PH and Phosphorus. Well worth the money IMO.

What is the difference here? I see on BRS the HI736 is sold out and after doing some reading about it you have to do a bit of math to get your results. Though its not difficult to do just seems strange that the test doesn't give a straight answer the first time.

Yes, the HI736 measures phosphorous instead of phosphate (Multiply the reading by 3 and divide by 1000 gives you phosphate), but it's the only one designed for marine use. The HI713 is not accurate for saltwater.

I found the kit with another supplier. Thank you everyone for the help here with this. Does anyone have a good option for other quality kits? Right now I have the api master reef kit and am finding most of the tests are consistently inconsistent. The only one that seems to keep reading the same is the Ca test.

You can find a conversion table for the Hana checker online. I don't remember the site, but just do a Google search for Hana conversion table. One of the tables even shows a conversion range to include the checkers error rate.
