Hanna checkers are amazing BUT, keep an eye on your batteries!

I got a little lazy about water testing (don't do this!) and finally tested a few days ago to find my phosphate at .11. Doh! This despite decent coral growth and color and no algae. I immediately changed out my GFO. Tested again today and there was no change, .11.

Recently I'd filled my ATO with distilled water because I was out of RODI and suspecting this as a possible phosphate source I decided to test out of the same jug after testing my own water again. While in the middle of the test the batteries in my checker died. I replaced the battery and tested the distilled - 0.00. Decided to test my own water again and... 0.00. The low batteries were giving me a false reading.

Lesson learned. Make sure your batteries are not dying!

I just had this happen with the Alk tester. But the difference was when I went to turn it on, it showed "bad bat" then shut off. Installed a new battery, tested the water, was same reading as a few days ago with what must have been a weak battery.

Hmmm. I just replaced my battery but it gave me the low battery readout and the readings the two days before were spot on with what I got after the battery change.

Thanks for the heads up.
