No one here understands my excitement so I had to tell somebody that might appreciate it. That means YOU ;)

Just got my 2nd Tunze nano stream 6045. Now I can replace the Seio 620 and throw it into my 30g softy/lps tank.

Anticipating MAD amounts of flow :D I'll find out when I go home for lunch and slap this bad boy in.

Only problem Ive been spinning on is if I have the streams positioned in the most efficient way for the landscape of my corals.

I have the 1st Tunze on the left side about mid side panel aiming at a 30 degree angle reflecting on the front of my tank moving down the length of it to the right side. On the right side I'll be putting the 2nd Tunze pointed roughly the same angle towards the back of the tank moving down the length towards the left side, ultimately making a "whirlpool" effect. My two returns are on the top left middle and the right top middle pointing down on my heads of acros alternating by a SQWD.

Thats more or less how I have my Tunze 6025's setup. Actually that was one of the only ways I could set up my tank without having a massive sandstorm. Either way, I still get good flow... some will say probably too much but I think that'll definitely work. It's either that or point the new tunze at the glass and go for a more random effect. I would think either is fine.

My tank's flow has me like Whoa!

Great product. Just what the doctor ordered. I was afraid it would be slightly too much, but nope. Goldilocks says it's just right!! If there werent a bunch of acro head outcroppings, it might just be too much, but with all the sticks I got going and growing it is ideal now... A year down the road and the growth I'll see, I forsee myself swapping both these out for the controllable 6055's though :smokin:

Slightly smaller than the seio 620's but with the flow of an 1100, these things are bad @zz, and quite a bit more aesthetically pleasing. The only downside is the price right now, a 100 bucks a pop for the 6045's.

SWEET.....LOVE the flow.....is there such a thing as too much I ask?

I see you walking down the road towards a barebottom tank as I did when upping my flow.

Flow, and the patterns associated with it is one of the most interesting things to me.

Rock arrangment plays a big part and where pieces are located, if your placement of either can not be adjusted, you plan may have to be instead.

If it helps any, I found three powerheads in the corner pointing in three different directions ( across the back, towards the front, diagonaly and all at three different heights) made the best results in creating even, turbulent flow in the tank.

Watch your growth, everytime I added flow the rate increased.....which is the point right?

I think the vortechs are adjustable......
 
part of my challenge is rock placement and the various corals and trying to hit each of em with some juice. It would've been nice to be able to start over with the livestock I have now, but some of these corals were placed due to a fairly stocked mixed reef. Since Ive moved most of the soft stuff out it still left me with only certain locations for placement of future acros and stuff. But still loving the LPS Im forced to leave a slow pocket in the left front under the powerhead. Honestly, I think Im just scatter brained and dont know where the hell Im going with my tank! Kinda just rollin with the punches you know?Seriously! After 6 years this tank is still a 'work in progress'!!:D

I don't know if it just me but from the sketch it appears most of your flow is going in one direction thus creating a whirlpool type effect. IMO this is not the best type of flow as it mostly moves in 1 direction. I would try and face them aiming at eachother so the flow hits and disperses randomly. just my .02c
 
I agree, besides the whirpool motion I do have 2 returns on a sqwd breaking it up in the middle alternately, so it's not just a constant circle. . Im playing around with the pumps and have removed some spray nozzles and now have just the elbows pointed in the directions im tryin to try and help remove excess resistance, basically still tinkering,challenge right now is making sure I got the flow up top as well as some of my acros,pocci's and stylos down at the bottom.

Hey btw, if all goes well, hopefully this will be the weekend I can get my butt up to Marysville ;)

Well, I honestly can say I think Ive tried every combo possible with 2 returns and 2 pumps. Although I must admit while blowing straight at each other caused the perfect strong and sporatic flow that my sps would thrive under, it left some spots dead that some of my stuff would suffer under. Alot of this is just due to rock work and coral placement. But after many attempts I reverted back to a similar config but slightly different.

I took out the elbow piece on the left return so more flow is inevitably pointed downward which by my stuff's placement works great. The right side was tough as the right power head cuts through half of the tank making a wall for anything coming from the backside of the tank, so I opted to point the right return right which collides with the flow coming from the left powerhead.The left powerhead is placed in the back left corner while the right is placed in the right fore front. I would definately say not likely the most efficient or even second best choice, but was the only way I could make sure that the ones that did need a good current were getting it, overall Im very happy. Once/if I get a chiller I'll consider a closed loop, but that flow wont be necessary for at least a year(hopefully ;) ). Heres what it looks like:

To compare, this shot was taken 10 months ago, when I had a SEIO 1100, and 620. Major aesthetic improvement and much less visually invasive. What do you think?

Thanks! I have 3 blue/green chromis, 1 maroon and 1 copperband butterfly.

I think that the whirlpool effect is great as you will get more of the water column moving. The best thing would be to get two more streams and set them in exactly the opposite directions so you could reverse the direction of the whirlpool every 10-15 minutes by swithching from one set of two pumps to the other. That is how I'm going to set up my new cube when I finally get around to going for a new build.
