Hard plumbing for Red Sea Reefer sump

Hi,

Does anyone out there have a Red Sea Reefer in which they have hard-plumbed their return pump, chiller etc in their sump?

I want to swap the flexible tubing in my Red Sea Reefer 250 over for hard plumbing to a) stop the pumps moving around and b) allow me to fit a reactor, which will be powered by the chiller pump. I would love to see any photos or designs of what others have done to their Reefers.

Here is a photo of my sump - sorry, it's a bit busy!

I have a 450 and recently did this to the return pump. I added a flow neter and Cor 20 Pump from Apex

Thanks for the reply.

I see you used flexible hose to connect to the pump and the return line - was that just for convenience or did you want to allow some movement?

You'll definitely want a short section of hose, ideally the softest you can find, close to the pump. Otherwise, a hard plumbed line basically turns into a megaphone to make your pump louder.

If you're worried about hose barbs being restrictive then just upsize the plumbing or use rubber repair couplings (not submerged, since they typically have steel clamps). Available in hardware stores and sized to slip over the outside of sch 40 pvc.
