Hard time keeping shrimp

Does anyone else struggle to keep shrimp? I have tried scarlet cleaner shrimp on 2 occasions in 2 separate tanks now and have had no luck. The first one molted 2 or 3 times in just over a month and then one day was dead. The second one I made sure to spot feed him daily to make sure he was getting enough food. He lasted about 4 months and molted once and then one day he was dead.

My first go around I fed heavily for the fish and thought he would be able to scavenge enough of his food. When he died i figured he starved. The second go around i was going to make sure i spot fed this one daily. It lasted a lot longer than my first go around but the end result was the same.

My levels are:
SG: 1.025
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate:0

I dont test for or dose iodine because I read that it aids in molting and they seem to molt just fine.

What fish are these guys with?

Ever since my red bug treatment I have not been able to keep shrimp. It was approx. 9 months ago, so I really do not think I have any lingering meds. Going to try a few hermit crabs today in my attached frag tank and see how they do. If all goes well I am going to try again later this summer after my vacation.

What are the tank mates? It took me a month and three cleaner shrimp to finally catch my Neon Dotty Back plucking the eyes out of the last one. I came back from lunch one day and my shrimp looked funny, after watching it for a while I saw the dotty back swim bye and pluck the last eye out and then swim away. Then I plucked him out of the tank and back to the fish store with a warning.

I have kept shrimp for over five years. The key question (as asked already) is what tank mates are in this tank (fish and other inverts)

For me

2 Ocellaris clowns
2 lyre tail anthias
fairy wrasse (this is my only suspect, but it was in with the pre redbug treatment shrimp and never messed with it.)
yellow tang

Have you checked your copper levels and what are the tank mates? I had a 6 line that would eventually kill any shrimp of any size I put in the tank. I had him for 12 years until he jumped out one day at random. He was gorgeous, but that fish was evil, lol

Tank mate was Picasso clown and Randall's shrimp goby. The goby and shrimp hung out together all day long. The clown never even really acknowledged they we even in the same tank. Only other thing was snails

None of these fish are an issue with shrimp. Are you keeping any other invertebrates? Crabs? Pistol shrimp? Mantis shrimp?

If you are able to keep a pistol shrimp, copper is not an issue.

I had the same type of issue in the beginning when I was dosing iodine. I think the shrimp were molting way to much and getting stressed to death. After I stopped, no more problems.
