Hardiest Anthias?

Hi guys,

My new 82g SF tank should be arriving soon. I have always wanted to get some Anthias and I think now it's a good time to get them. Since I have no experience with Anthias, can you guys suggest some nice hardier Anthias to start? Also, what's the hardiest (good price) Anthias? Can I mix them with Green Chromis? I am thinking about getting 3-6 of both Anthias and Green Chromis. What do you guys think? Right now I have a baby blue hippo tang, 2 picasso clowns and 1 sixline that I will be transfering to the new tank too. Thanks guys.

I'd recommend Lyretail anthias, as they are the hardiest, and tend to be some of the cheapest. You can keep them w/ Chromis, as many people do, and sometimes they shoal together.

For other species I'd look into:

Barlett's Anthias
Resplendent Anthias

Thank you stevejakubiec. How big will they grow to? I would like to keep the smaller anthias as my tank is not as big as some of you guys... Bigger the fish, smaller my tank will look... and I just upgraded. Any of them are in pink?

the lyretails are prob your best bet....

my vote is NOT for ignitus's or mine was just stupid decided he saw the clowns hosting my nem....that didnt last long

Is the "quick status" from Liveaquaria accurate? It show that Lyretails has a minimium of 125g requirment... How about Ignitus, Carberryi or Evansi? Are they pretty hardy? Can I mix difference Anthias together? Example 3 of each from barletts, ignitus and Evansi?

I recommend the fathead/sunburst. Not your typical anthias, but stunning nonetheless. I'd go with 3 bartlett's in a tank that size. Lyretails get WAY too big and need way too much room for an 82G.

thanks guys for the advice. Also, can I mix difference specie of anthias together? I would love to have 3 Ignorus and 3 Canberryi. Will they fight? Thanks.

Oh, sorry, The Resplendent Anthias, stay around 3" and pictures on LIveaquaria don't do them justice. Lyretails stay around 5" (Males) 4" (Females). You can mix species if tank is large enough.

Thanks guys. I want to have appox 15-18 (max) fish in my new 82g with 25g sump. What do you think about my fish list? I just purchased a new Bubble King Mini 200 rated for 135-265g so that'll be my main filteration. I will be running a phosban reactor & ozone to help with the filteration.

1. 1.5" Hippo Tang (from the old tank)
2. 2 x Picasso Clowns (from the old tank)
3. 1 sixline wasses (from the old tank)
4. 3 x Ignorus Anthias
5. 3 x Canberryi Anthias
6. Diamond Watchman Goby
7. Carpenter Flasher Wasses
9. Mccosker's Flasher Wasses
10. Flame Angelfish
11. Moorish Idol (I will add him first)

Your hippo tang will be okay for awhile, until it outgrows the tank.
the rest of the fish is fine, except for the Moorish Idol, which should be housed in 300gallon plus tanks.

Both ignitus anthias and carberryi can be difficult species; I wouldn't recommend them for the first time keeper, or in a tank that small.

Forgot to mention that my current tank is SPS dominated. My water parameter has been good and Nitrate is always at 0 with 4 fish in my 20g. Hopefully, with having good water quality, good filteration and patient, I can have a good chance with them.
