Sorry so many.

Does anybody know what it would take to setup a separet tank just to raise asterinas?

That way there would always be a food source at hand. You could always buy a CC just to buy some time and let the population grow again.

A couple more questions,

How much flow can they handle?

If they are in a species only tank, How small of a tank can a pair go into?

I have read this thread and I do see that some have them in a 3 gallon setup but what I would like to know is what is the perfered size tank for them. I also read the link above. I don't remember reading anything on the size of tank, or flow.

Also with those of you who have them in amixed reef, Do you or have you ever had problems with the CC stars getting away and doing damage to your reef?

does anyone know the life expectancy of them?

Thanks

After talking with Chuck from Cucksaddiction, The answer is three to four years tops. It also depends on how old they are when you aquire them. I hope this helps.

As far as your flow question I have them under a ton of flow and they seem to be fine.
I don't know how much is too much though.

As far as size goes I have them in an 8 but wouldn't feel comfortable going any smaller.

I also have corals in the tank and a CC has never escaped

Thanks buttons buster,

So far the CC hasn't done any damage, up untill yesterday it was roaming arouns the tank with the shrimp riding and destroying. It now sit still and is bent in a way to try to protect itself. It moves a little bit every once in awhile so I know it is still alive.

The flow question was because the tank I got him from was pretty calm and when he went into my tank he just went into hiding. All seems to be fine now though.

Do you know anything about raising asterinas?
Do you know about keeping CC and haveing them donate limbs?
I wonder how long it takes to regenrate the limb.

rasing astreas isn't hard, you just need a 2nd tank too keep them in where they won't get eaten. They breed ocassionally but I can't putt enough from my 135gal tank too keep 2 harlequins happy, I have to suplement their feedins with other stars.

CC stars will aparently regonate their arms too but not as fast as a breed like linkias do. CC stars I just thow in the tank for the harlequins whole.

I've cut arms off blue linkias and a arm the size of my pinky finger will take about a month to grow back, mabby longer.

Hope this helps.

Well I got my Female today. There does't seem to be any problems. They are both sitting and enjoying the CC together.

So... can I assume that all is well and they, have, or will take to each other?

hey thanks! they are so beautiful and amazing. Isnt this hobby great lol.

Hey, what are most of you feeding your shrimp? I see alot of people talking about what they 'can or should or could' eat.. but what are you actually feeding?

mine came with a choc chip.

okay, so I after reading on Chuckaddiction he mentions that the spicules from the starfish will/could aggravate coral. Anybody notice this?

Hello everyone.

Wind` Yes they get along fine with cleaner shrimp. I have mine in with Skunk Cleaners, Blood Reds, and Sexy Shrimp. There is never any aggression. I think this is due to the fact that these shrimp all play different roles in a reef system

Here are some current shots of mine. In the pics the shrimp are riding the star up the side walls of the tank..

This is an image of the Female Elegans with eggs. You can even see the eyes of the larvae.

The male is a Picta and the female is an Elegans.
I figured that they would "cross-breed" but now I know for sure.
