harlequin tusk

My harlequin does not eat my snails of hermits that I've seen, he is well fed. I also have triggers, and a dogface puffer; they probably eat them from time to time but not enough to bother me. The more accustomed they get to captive living the less appealing hunting for a meal looks. My pinktail just goes on rampage from time to time and chomps up a hermit like potatoe chips. My urchin is on the glass right in front of my puffer, and he' more intent on begging me for a handout. Forget about adding a shrimp though.

Mine ate every single snail or hermit that was added within 5 minutes. I used Urchins, large Cowries, and fish to keep the tank clean.

I believe if the CUC was already in the tank prior to the Tusk, I think you might be ok, but anything after that may be fair game. As the Tusk gets bigger, things may change, depending on the fish. You can try to feed clams on the half-shell or shrimp with the shell on. Keep them well feed and you may have a good chance of keeping the CUC alive.

I put a tiny juvenile Tusk in a tank with snails, hermits and two kinds of cleaner shrimp. He was fascinated by the hermits. He would lay down beside them and peer into their shells. They stayed withdrawn while he did this. Little by little the hermit shells came up empty. The snails were next. Then he ate the scarlet cleaner shrimp and then the fire shrimp.

He's now grown up quite a bit and has a tank to himself except for one giant turbo snail that is almost tennis ball size. He watches it.
