the last anemone i had was 7 years ago at that time keeping anemones were looked down at since most people could only keep them alive for 6 months or so and looking at there life in the ocean of over a 100 years that just ment a death sentence being put in a tank. i know alot has changed since then and most of us have halides and much better water. so i was curious as to how anemones do these days or if a certain type has been found to live better then another. i don't even know if my clowns would go to an anemone since they have made there home in a toodstool for 5 years now

i think the hobby has come leaps and bounds since the time you kept nems many people have very happy 5 or 6 year old nems lighting has really helped as well as water quality
if you have a modern reef tank with good water quality i would try a starter nem like a Bubble tip
your clowns will probobly move into the nem as a toadstool is not as natural for them one of my pairs hosts a bubble tip and the other pair hosts a frogspawn
when you are looking for nems make sure you find a healty one with lots of color not a bleached one

If you scroll through some back pages of this forum, there's a thread where the poster by the name sonofgaladriel asked who has had an anemone the longest, and what they contribute it to. It might be worth looking into.

From what I remember, someone (I think Phender) has had one for 12 years, there may have even been some older than that!

Most people contribute it to good water and husbandry skills, appropriate lighting, as well as feeding (most just use things from the seafood counter at the grocery store - shrimp, scallops, etc., as well as sliversides & krill). Most also agree that starting with a healthy anemone increases your chances of sucess greatly!

We're still new to the anemone club, but we're going on two years (mid January) now with our H. crispa :)

I would say that success with them is much more common these days than it was seven years ago. They can still be challenging but definately are not impossible.

I will tell you that the aquarium hobby has changed a good deal since the late 90s because it is easier to get better information on how to care for them.

I would try agian if i were you. and if your lighting is good enough.
Ive had a bubble tip about ten months now. they are the most amazing and fasinateing creatures.

I bet your clowns will take to it as well. If they are hosting somthing, chances are they will the nem too :)
