Has anybody tested the water quality from a de-humidifier?

Hi might and wise ones of the aquarium world,

I am fairly new to the saltwater world and have been reading up on getting a RO/DI. I have several aquariums around my 2 bedroom apartment and found that water was soon flowing freely down all my windows. :eek2: I got a nice de-humidifier and that work wonders. :D
I was fussing and getting water ready for top up at the same time I was empting out the bucket from the de-humidifier. It occurred to me that I have just about 5 gallons of water out of this thing and was wondering if it would be tank safe. :fish1: Has anybody else has this odd thought?

The expectation is that it would not be suitable because the condensing coils are usually metals, and may well have released traces of metal into the water. Copper and other metals, even at low levels, are very undesirable, and those aquarists who made the mistake of passing RO/DI water over brass pipe parts, for example, have had significant problems.

Bad idea

Bad idea

Hi Randy,

Thanks for the info. So I guess creating an auto top up with this would be a bad idea then.
