Has anyone ever had sucess breeding firefish?

I paired up some regular firefish just by observing interactions in a group at an LFS...one was nasty to another and turned around and displayed to a 2nd...nasty = male, recipient of "affectionate display" = female...at least that's how I got a compatible pair. I've never observed breeding or larvae from this pair though, but they are in a reef with a ton of other fish that do regularly breed.

FWIW,

38 days from a pair of purples was the longest I've done, then the Hydroids came and took my babies away. They're not impossible, just take a long time, like 45-60 days to settle out.

Dman,

Had to do any special adjustment for them to breed ? Can you tell us how they care for the eggs ?

Three wekks after getting a paisr from someone they laid a batch in a 3/4in CPVC tube. I rigged up a bubbler for the eggs and tube to stand on and I was off to the races. There might be a pic of the rig in my gallery. As for varing for the eggs/larvae, I pretty much treated them like clowns.

Hi Dman,
Is this the picture you talked about ?

Is it a two piece "thumbler" ? One goes with the parents and you conect the other for hatching ?
Was it a one time spawn ? Any guess how many eggs/fry ?

This fish is really gorgeous so sad there isn´t many breeding them...

Yes, that would be the pic.
And my apologies, they were not purple firefish that I had that bred, that pair died when they thought they would try carpet surfing. That rig was setup of a pair of Neon Gobies (G. oceanops) that I had.
Once again, sorry about that, I've never tried the firefish as the only pair I had never lived long enough together to try.
Boy, do I feel like an idiot.

With the Neon's they laid inside a 3/4 in CPVC pipe about 5 inches long. After 6 days I would set that up, the tube with the eggs stands on the verticle part of the Tee where the airstones is. The elbow is to keep the Tee upright so the air bubbles pass through the tube without slamming the eggs.
