has anyone had their clowns spawn in a 12 gallon nanocube?

I have a pair of true percs that I decided to put in my 12 gallon nanocube .. I'm wondering what're the chances of them spawning vs. in a larger tank.

Most of the breeders have them in tanks around that size, if not a little smaller. I have a pink skunk pair in one right now because I'm in the middle of a remodel. No spawns yet, though.

Usually there is a breeding system of interconnected 10-20G tanks plumbed into a large sump.

Addtional water volume, live rock, mechanical filtration in the sump allow generous feedings (at least twice a day, once to saturation). You will not be able to do that with a 12G.

True, but I remember there was a guy a while back who had a pair of true percs spawning in his 12g.

They might spawn, if the environment is comfortable enough for them, but you won't necessarily be able to use any of the tricks that help to get them going (feeding to saturation, etc.) if you want to keep your water clean.

Well, if you have a 150W MH clip-on, no hood, and an AquaClear 70 on the back, you can make pretty generous feedings

I'm not really sure what lighting has to do with water quality and filtration...but okay.

I feed fairly generously, and I'm not even running a filter. I've got 175w MH and an MJ900 for flow, and that's it. The rest is LR and water changes.

Well, it is just the fact of simulating the natural sunlight as closely as possible. And I don't think that your clons have ever spaund in your tank so I am not really sure as to how you can think what I am saying is 'stupid'.....

My clown pairs spawn under different lights (MH, PC). Intensity of light is not important. What is important is consistent light cycle. Some indicate night light (blue) is beneficial, too. More info is in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum.

I never said anything was stupid, I just had no idea how you were trying to tie it in...

I'm still not sure how having metal halides enables you to feed more heavily than you could under PCs or even NO fluorescent.

I remember reading in joyce wilkersons book she bred her ocellaris in a 10. I don't think it is far fetched to do this in a 12 with meticulous care and the clowns having the tank to themselves. I would personally go for a bigger tank but I think it could definately happen.

thanks for the replies, guys! everyone had some interesting input ... i will let you all know if they decide to spawn one day I have another pair in my 25 gallon tank w/20 gal sump, and since I really want them to spawn, you bet i'll be feeding them like crazy now!

My old pair of true percs spawned in my 12 gallon with a crispa.
So the answer is Yep!!
