Like the title says, has anyone put a larger than stock pump in their 12g nanocube?

I have a stock one for a 24g and would like to know if it's to much for the 12g.

i did when i had a 12 gallon and i upgraded to Maxijet 900. i wanted Maxijet 1200 but my LFS said it would be too much.

A maxijet 1200 hundred might be a little overkill as mentioned plus they tend to heat up the water and in such a small tank it might be devastating during the summer months.
I have an aquaclear 30 in addition to my stock pump and I hang it on the back wall on the opposite side of the stock pump. Works well and the two helps eliminate dead spots.
Plus the pump comes with a hang on bracket so you don't have to use those useless suction cups.

ya, i upgrded to a maxi-jet 1200, and I put a koralia 1 behind my rocks to keep the flow regular in all corners of the tank, it works out just fine. The temp in my tank is 76 constant and I find it keep my water super clean, my LFS said it would work out just fine and my tank has been doing great for 7 months now...

One of the Reasons that I didn't buy a JBJ Nano Cube for my office was.....

Everytime I emailed them with a question.....They didn't have an answer....I asked about thier nano cube and what their stock pump had for a GPH........Their responce was...It may very........

I went with the Oceanic BioCube 14

The stock pump on the 14 gal is 137 GPH..... I just upgraded the stock pump to a RIO + 800

It upgrades it to 211 GPH.....also Its the same size as the stock pump, so it fits right down inside the same area
