I having my elec. upgraded from 120 amps to 200 amps and the electrician said it will probably take about 4 hrs to switch over.

Chuck, just get or borrow an ups backup and run a couple of seios on it.
Temp should not be a problem at this time and the circulation from 2 seios should keep the dissolved oxygen at a minimal level.

By the way,
The 120 will be for sale soon.

im going to be doing the same thing chuck except i have a 300 gal tank.

im trying to find a generator i can borrow atm. but if not i will have a few battery powered air pumps going and some pure 02 going thru air stones in the display i only have like 6 fish in there and the largest is my YT thats 3-4" so i shouldnt be too bad off.

You could also use a power inverter (about 75 bux) and a marine battery.. then plug in your powerheads or whatever to the inverter.

I went 12 hours last weekned when we had the big storm.

Scared the hell out of me, but nothing is suffering.

I broke down and bought a generator this week. It will probably never come out of the box (hopefully)

You will be fine, I think. Of course a couple powerheads or even an airstone would be nice. Run an extention cord from the neighbors house.

Thanks Guys I contacted the electrician and he said it will be no problem he'll hook up a extension cord for me?

Warren.. Sorry, My wife just brought me one from Cindy...:D

that's what happens when you move your tank into the kitchen, most women will do anything to get it out of there...
(well almost anything.....:smokin: :) )

Just an fyi at this point, but a tank can, depending on the fish load, the species involved [no tangs], and the oxygenation of the water before the outage.

I have my tank return pump on a UPS that will provide 3 hours running time.

get a couple of the pennplex battery operated air pumps. i have a ton of fish in the 90 gallon and last week lost power for about three hours and the air pumps kick on automatically once the power goes out. this helps if you aren't homw when the power goes out. i actually got them from cindy. they are on her web site just do a search.

also i found if you have a marine battery around the only pump that will run on its dc curt is a bilge pump. which happen to be avaible at any walmart. think i paid ten bucks and the thing does about 500gph. just drill a hole in the return jet of the bilge pump and slide an air line in it to inject some o2 into the water. i figure with my marine battery it should last a couple days. also the nice thing is the bilge pumps are designed to work in a salt water environment. no rust or oil residue.

hope this helps.

I recently did a 14 hour stretch with my 6 tanks at home. Power came back on after the 14 hours on just enough to make the PHs move a little water and had lights no filtration or anything else then by the second day the power was back on at full capacity all I lost was a square anthias. Took a lot of stirring and water changes and some battery powered bubblers.

my tank lasted 10 days without power during hurricane Wilma. only a caouple of snails and crabs died. the temp went down to about 70F. i kep an air pump running.
