Hatch Night

Last night was hatch night and the first time I was prepared for attempting to raise the fry! The lights went out at 9:30 like normal and I patiently waited 30 minutes and went and scoped out the tank. They hadn't hatched yet so I went back to reef central to read more about raising my new borns. My fiancé was watching tv in the same room as the tank during this time and she went to bed around 10:30. I checked the eggs about every 15 minutes until 11:30 and figured that maybe tonight wasn't the night. The only light in the room during this time was from the TV and a ceiling light that was on in the next room.
I wake up this morning and go to check on the eggs, but to my dismay they had hatched!! Do you guys think that the ambient lighting from the tv till 10:30 and then the kitchen light until I went to bed is what kept them from hatching? Does any one here cover their tank on hatch night?

Yes, is sure can. Hatch needs a total black out just what I've seen and tried.

Thank you for the response. We will be lights out on the first floor on the next hatch night.

Your welcome. Let me know if it works I'm still learning too. None of us have the process nailed and it can very for spawn to spawn. Let me know how it works out.

The last batch I collected I turned off all the lights in the living room eary to include the light in my sump and TV! I also turn off powerheads and sump. After all is quiet for about 45 min to an hour then I collected my fry.
Good luck next time!

I got them this time! I actually turned off my lights an hour early and covered the tank with a blanket. An hour later I shine I light in and they came to it instantly! I appreciate the help guys. I am on day 4 and have had minimal loses *knock on wood*.

It is way easier & you will get more fry if you set up a tank & move the eggs. My Ocellaris will hatch within 1 hour of the lights going out but the snowflakes took a lot longer.
