Have a ?? regarding pipe glue

I have my tank ready to be set up. Thing is my buddy glued a few of the pipes (in the overflow) and my bulkhead with black pvc glue. I know that the clear is ok to use. But what about the black one? I believe its for sewers cause it wont have to deal with alot of pressure. I couldnt care less about the pipes. But the bulkheads are a few $$ that im short on.

If it is the stuff for sewer, it is ABS cement, which is different than PVC glue?

Most ABS cements ethyl ketone (my spelling is probably off) and ABS resin.

Some PVC glues have ethyl ketone, but many do not (including Red Hot blue). But they contain PVC resin, not ABS resin.

So will the bond hold? No idea. But if it was ABS cement and it was on my tank, I would yank them out.

ABS glue is toxic, I've never heard of black pvc glue.

Crap... Soo that means i gotta run to the store DOH!! Thank you for letting me know. I have yet to set it up. Soo at least thats a good thing :-) Rather buy $20 in bulkheadsa/parts that lose livestock

Oatley makes a "general purpose" glue that allegedly does ABS, PVC and CVPC ... I've used that when either in doubt of glueing disimilar materials

so what would be good nontoxic glue to use on the pvc for the tank? im just wondering since in 2 weeks i will be plumbing mine up as well. also any advice would be nice on check valves, ball valves, ect.

Standard PVC Glue (solvent) from the hardware store. Usually comes in clear, blue, or purple.

The hardware stores commonly sell a two pack which includes primer and solvent....just get you one of those for the job. When dry, neither the primer or solvent will cause you any trouble.
