have any of you seen this skimmer?!

I wouldnt waste my money. Something like that is too passive in order to make some real bubbles which is the thing that makes a skimmer work. Nice idea since u dont use a pump but i dont think it would work well enough to be the only skimmer used

yeah I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for also just though I’d ask if any one had used one and had any input on it... it would be nice to have a skimmer that didn’t need a pump lol I read on another site about a setup that had a down draft skimmer that was in a basement and the tank was upstairs and the skimmer worked without a pump just the water flow. The tank size was 300 gal so they must have had a large volume of out flow. I would think its possible to be done on a large system that has a great turn over rate and multiple overflows so one over flow could be just for the skimmer, I don’t know… it has just been a topic of conversation between myself and a buddy.

I was just talking to some one about using the drain for a down flow skimmer and didn’t think that was enough flow and we discussed some way to harness this water air/mix to skim than tonight while surfing the net I saw this........

Does anyone have one of these?
Does it work?
What do you guys/gals think?

piece of ^%*^%$
;)

looks like junk to me, but the principle is interesting.

if designed properly this idea should work just fine. of course if someone does find a way to make one work well, they will also find a way to charge $800.

It seems like a very clever idea, however I just can't imagine it working very well in reality. Oh well; great concept though.

I wouldn't rely on it completely, but it's just another way to do the same thing. You can make bubbles with a pump, or you can make bubbles by turbulence. My .02

Anyway, sounds like an easy DIY project if anyone wants to try it.

U can also make bubbles blowing into an airline tubing -but thats not going to cut it! sorry had to do it-no offense.!

I agree gasman, you'd get really tired blowing into an airline. Plus you'd just be injecting CO2 into your tank. None taken. ;)

I had a friend modify an old skimmer to make something like that to take advantage of those bubles but he also had a normal skimmer running that device by itself does not cut it.
