Have to say it...

as I haven't really heard too much about them but I just received my nano stream 6045 and this thing is bad*ss and I haven't even seen it in action yet!

Makes me sad that the stream 2's were not out when I bought my 6000's. The swivel mount is cool!

I am going to use it to blow across the bottom of my new tank to help keep the detritus in the water column.

Can't wait to see how much flow I get out of this and the upgrade (that I am waiting to arrive hopefully before christmas) that will convert my 6000's to 6100's.

Just a quick question to anyone that has these pumps. I was inspecting it before putting it all together and on the impeller there is some sort of lubricant on the shaft. I am wondering what it is and should I leave it there or wipe it off before using the pump?

Thanks,
C.G.

The lube is used in testing the pumps before they leave the factory. If there is a ton, you can wipe some off, but otherwise you don't need to worry about it. Just enjoy the new powerhead.

It is just vaseline, keep in mind vaseline was originally intended to be eaten as an "intestinal lubricant" so it is quite safe. It is used to do a dry test run at the factory. If there is an excess the pump may spin backwards and in this case you can wipe it off.

Yummy!

once upon a time - i thought i heard vasoline was not good for orings (breaks them down as vas. is a pertoleum product) - so before i eat vasline i guess i need to quit eating orings

LOL. I think it depends on what the orings are made out of. If I recall Eheim used to include vaseline when the orings were natural rubber and switched to silicon lubricant when they switched to silicon orings.

I think I will use the vaseline to give to my mechanic. I got a lovely $1300 car repair today.

Luckily I get to go home and install my 6100 stream upgrades and check out this nifty nano stream!

Thanks for everything Roger (for getting the stream updates out and in my hands so quickly), and thank you to everyone else. Happy Holidays all!
