Have you seen the new tank at the Critter?

Saw it today. It is still being set up. It looks really nice. It is going to push water up through the bottom in 2 spots, and the water will overflow over the walls of the tank. There is a kind-of mote around the whole tank that the water will collect in and drain from there to the sump. Really neat, and I can't wait to see what it looks like when it is running. The only problem I can see with the setup is it is relying on check valves to keep all of the water from the display from draining out should the return pump ever cut off (power failure). That and the coraline scraping. It is a really neet setup though -- wow again. A way cool LFS frag tank.

There is also a very cool tank being set up at ebay. It has a center overflow and will have a surge device. Cool stuff everywhere!

there was also a Red Sea (looked like an overgrown Eclipse) set up that is a cool all-in-one unit over by the silversides area, w/T5 lighting and timer built in. I think it was 28g.

Yea I seen the redsea max (I think is what it is). Very cool setup with alot of features. I dont think its really t-5 lighting though? It says it has 110 watts 2 x55 watt t-5 lighting. But the bulbs look like your regular pc bulbs.

saw it today...I wouldn't worry about how they will keep the coraline off because their tank maintenance is immaculate compared to any other LFS I've ever seen within a few state radius. But yes, it would be a challenge for the common reefer. I'm not sure how you generate adequate flow inside the display though...maybe it's in a previous post and I just missed it.

They are using it for Clams and some SPS corals. I did notice that they were still having problems with the flow on one corner. Even though it is very level it is still not flowing evenly over that side.

An employee and myself messed with it for a minute or two and have a few thoughts about the return flow. It is facing toward one side of the tank making it the flow well up in that corner and come back into the tank instead of over the glass.

And yes they have two solaris led lights over it. It is pretty cool. When they get the flow problem solved, it will be very cool.

Maybe its not a leveling issue. It could be the tank isn't perfectly flat on top. It wouldn't take much to cause whats going on with it. I think this is the issue especially since its happening on one of the bent corners right?

I think they should just put an overflow on it and be done :P Keep the outside of the acrylic dry!

I saw it and it was way cool but naturally all 4 kids with me wanted to touch the water, myself included! Only problem I see with it as a LFS display is keeping sticky, God knows where they have been, kids hands out of it! ....And maybe a few adults.... Not to implicate myself or anything.... You can't help but want to touch the water flowing over the side just to see if it is what it looks like. Great clam tank for sure.

Good point Angela. The kids are bad enough in that store, but that's just begging for a water fight. Every kid (and most adults) that walks past that will drag a finger through it.

I just saw the tank, and it's still not completely level and visibility is impaired on two sides because of it. It does look really nice on the 'back side'.

If its flowing on one side of the corner and the other side but not over the corner itself, it has to be something other than a leveling issue. Increasing flow might fix it else someone needs to sand the edge down a little to make it the same height all the way around. 1/32" would probably make a difference. :P

they are going to sand it down a bit. talked with chris down there. also replacing the white eggcrate with a black one. very slick tank..

Useless! :P

I mean... it had to be a size issue by now instead of a leveling. Dang I love being right!!! bwhahahahahahahahahhahhahahaa. :P

wtfever :P I'm buzzed.

a few zero edge tank threads i read where people had this problem say that it worked its self out after running for a while and i know a few others had to up the flow like ryan said and that worked. I love the look of the tanks and i notice alot of other fish stores are setting them up to. they must all be trying to keep up with each other. they do make a nice display but like others have said there could be some downfalls.

Check it out yesterday and yep every kid that walked passed it put their fingers in it (Adults included) looks good but thats about it.

I guess it could work itself out after a while as long as you didn't clean the top edge of the tank.
