Having trouble getting your TR clown to host?? Try this!

This may not become the most popular thread but I have found a method to prod those unwilling TR clowns to host into anemones. The tactics may be questionable to some, but I have experimented with this and found it works.

I recently (meaning months ago) received some onyx from Rod. These clowns never once even sniffed the anemone. In the meantime, I had been QT'ing a WC perc for roughly 10 weeks...then it dawned on me. What if I added this WC clown to the tank with the TR? Most WC clowns will go directly to the anemone, and knowing this I felt perhaps, the WC clown would cause the TR clowns to either join him or enter the anemone in a sign of aggression enter the anemone...nevertheless, I felt as though this could prod the clowns into the anemone, and once they begin to roll around in it..hopefully instinct would kick in.

I added the WC clown at around 4 pm....by 7 pm, my suspicions were confirmed. The WC was in the anemone in 30 minutes...soon after my TR female was chasing the WC male around in the anemone. The aggresion was mild, almost more of a courtship then an all out attack. After a while my TR male entered the anemone to help out it's female companion...by 7 or 8 o'clock the TR clowns had established the anemone as a host, paying more attention to the anemone than the WC male I had added. The same night, soon after the lights went out, I took out the WC male, and the TR continue to host.

Maybe some of you will try this, perhaps many will frown upon this practice, but nevertheless, it worked. Some suggestions...make sure the WC clown you have has been QT'd for a significant period of time so that it doesn't introduce any Brook or other maladies to the system. Make sure the WC clown is either a juvi, or that the WC clown is a male. When it sees the other clowns it will seek refuge in the anemone as it will feel threatened, however, if it is a female, it may ignore the anemone and fight with the exisisting female. Third, once the TR clowns establish territory in the anemone, promptly remove the WC specimen.

I hope this info may help out someone...good luck!
