Just trying to help, people need to relax.

agreed. ITS FRIDAY! :D

Damnit Jenn, you beat me to it. That's what I get for going out on a Friday night. But as always, I couldn't have expressed it better.

Folks, can we keep the comments out of this thread? I understand your intentions are good in "warning" people, but it's not fair to the person setting this up that you are dumping all over his thread. This isn't a whole lot different than a normal selling thread where we would as for the same courtesy. If you want to buy, please post, if you're only here to bash or make comments, don't post. Make those elsewhere...

Thanks.

Mike,

It seems to me that you are suggesting that people step into this GB thing ill-advised so as to satisfy the criteria of placing an order first, worry about the ramifications later. I think that is irresponsible.

What if someone wanted to cross a busy road, and didn't know to look both ways first. Do we wait to see what happens and hope they learn their lesson on their own, or offer a genuine piece of advice first?

The fact of the matter isn't necessarily the group buy in and of its self, but rather the blatant disregard to the care and husbandry of the livestock once it is delivered. If you notice, not ONCE has it been questioned why fish died within that first week after delivery. Are you suggesting this be ignored and repeated AGAIN?

Butch

I'm suggesting, that if you have issues in general with group buys of fish, or their care, you create your own thread and post your concerns there....not within this guys thread.

...And to continue on this same line of thought, note that nobody was here to bash group buys in the first place, and there is a genuine interest as to the the risks in the second place. Re-read the first three posts of this thread and you will see exactly what I am talking about. It is nobodies intent to be disrespectful, and curious minds want to know.

Keep in mind that threads get hijacked all the time. That's the nature of of a public forum. If Palileo isn't having success in his indeavor here, well frankly welcome to the world of business. Ask anyone who runs a business and you will realize that we don't close every deal. It's called competition.

That's what we have Moderators for :wavehand"

If anyone has links to tips for acclimation please feel free to post them. I would like to try and offer this type of information in advance...

Palileo - Familiarize yourself with neobenedenia, expecially how to identify and treat it. My experience is that this is the biggest pathgenic concern of fish shipments coming from Hawaii. I suspect that this is the likely cause of fish losses in the week(s) following the original acclimation period.

Sorry, I have no links on the subject.

I found one entry on a Google search on the subject that mentioned parasites and doing a 2 minute freshwater dips that showed to successfully treat this.

Hopefully, being that the diver is a family friend and says that he will selectively send us healthy fish, we won't have to worry about parasites and diseases. Well hopefully not as much as mentioned above.

Just speaking from my experience, and I've brought in thousands of fish from Hawaii. Again, my truest concern is the health of the fish, not someone saving 50 bucks!

Indeed, a 2-5 minute freshwater dip is quite effective in treating neobenedenia. It is not an absolute though. As for you friend selecting 'healthy' specimens, would you like to place a wager that 80% of your fish will be diseased? Lol.

Please keep us informed of your findings.

ReefRascals, I appreciate your concerns. I SEE where you are coming from being the owner of Reef Rascals Aquarium... and no, I won't be making any wagers with you... I can tell you this though, I've received 11 fish from the diver so far and none of them seem to be sick... so unless every single one of the rest of the fish are going to be sick and die, you're already wrong. hopefully we can end this conversation between you and I.

for everyone's information, the diver has been collecting fish for over 10 years... I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing and wouldn't intentionally send us sick, dying fish...

Fish from Hawaii are generally more healthier than fish collected from other region ie. Indonesia. At least you know Hawaii's fish are not collected with cyanide, chemicals or explosions. I did quarantine all my fish with Cupramine regardless to be on the safe side.

More healthier??? LOL

Regardless, neobenedenia is not a consequence of collection and therefore the cyanide topic is a mute point in this regard. As well, copper has no effect on this pathogen.

Thanks.

Well if I was about to buy something and somebody else had a positive or negative experience that might influence my decision, I think I'd like to know - but hey, that's just me :)

And I think that *most* collectors would never knowingly send something on that was sick, but the fact is they often aren't in the collector's custody long enough for anything to become apparent.

But then again, I'm just in the peanut gallery ... what the heck do I know? *g*

Now that some time has passed and everyone has had time to cool off, how did this work for you? ;)
