What are your guys thoughts on Hawaii? My family is taking a trip there and alot of our time is probably going to be snorkling, Scuba Diving, or Snuba diving... is it a nice place to snorkel/dive or not? Which Island do you like best for snorklien/diving?
thank you VERY much

My wife and I just got back from Maui.
Great diving, tons of shore diving, don't even need to pay for a boat. Check out Maui Dreams Diving Company, great shop. Have them take you out for a scooter dive, lots of fun.

i went snorkeling in maui and it was awesome. it was about 8 yrs ago and what i remember most is they said we were snorkling in a volcano in which the side fell in so it was inactive but the views were amazing

Fishfreak218,

Just came back from Maui last week and I went snorkeling and scuba diving.

I stayed at the Kaanapali Beach hotel and went Snorkeling right off the beach there at Black Rock. If you have mask, snorkel, and fins you can go right off the beach and see some great stuff. I saw a couple of green sea turtles near Black Rock which was pretty awesome.

I also went diving at Molokini Crater and went with Lahaina Divers. It was a smaller boat but they were a good bunch of guys who were safe and made the trip fun.

thanks very much for your input.. i was just making sure it wasnt over tourist-ed and looked junky thanks very much.. from the pics it looks awesome... thank you
we will be going to Maui and another Island and most likly staying at the 4 seasons hotel.. which other island do u reccomend and anyone reccomend any specific places? (hotels, places to visit.. places to dive etc.)
thank you

Make sure to talk to the locals before shore diving. The trade winds would kick up about 2 PM. In the Morning the diving on the South east side was great, very calm. However in the afternoon when the trade winds would kick up the surf would go from calm to 2-3 feet in less than 30 minutes. In the afternoon we would dive on the South West side of the island where it would then be calm. This was in mid April so I'm sure it will be different in other months.

go to the big island. it isnt touristy at all. and diving is very cheap compared to the other islands. people say that the other islands have better reefs but i think there wrong. the big island is definantly the BEST island to go th.

have any of you that have been to the crater been to ulua beach. I am going there this july, and i am trying to find out some stuff about it before i go. Mainly what i would like to know is how far out does the second reef start, and how deep is it.

We Dove Ulua as a night dive. Our max depth was 34 feet. Its kind of hard to say how far out we went, we don't surface until we swim back in. But on average we swim out at about a half foot per second on average and it was a 50 minute dive. So we went out 1000 feet or so, give or take. Check out Keawakapu beach as well, its just down the road a little bit. But make sure to check when the trade winds kick up and in which direction fo the time of year you are going. We made those dives in the early morning and it was very calm but in the afternoon you get some heavy surf.
