As there is a lot of people having success with the common cleaner wrasse i wondered if anyone has had success keeping a hawaiian, i know they are more delicate than other wrasses.

i have no luck hawaiian variety but my common cleaner wrasse i had for 3 years and i have a pair right now for 2 years and counting.

they don't acclimated well in my opinion usually dead in a day or two.

We need tank descriptions. For all we know you manage the Georgia Aquarium and the wrasse lived with the whale shark.

Lol, I had mine in 120 gal tank, only a few SPS and LPS, with minimum live rock; the tank mate included Moorish Idol, Achilles Tang, potter angel, leopard wrasse, clown pair & neon goby. The Hawaiian cleaner wrasse got along with most fish, except neon goby; it hated neon goby so much, maybe neon goby looked like tiny cleaner wrasse. My tank had ick outbreak, Achilles Tang was dashing, I think Hawaiian cleaner wrasse probably got spooked and jumped.

All cleaners are best suited for aquariums with LARGE fish. ie groupers, tangs, angels, butterfies, even sharks...

they very rarely live in captivity without these specifications.

The Hawaiian ones do OK when small and have some adequate big fish to help transition them.
