Hawkfish Tankmates

what kind of hawkfish? it can make a difference. with a longnose or flame hawk, I think a percula (or ocellaris, I think they might be a little hardier) would be fine.

Hawks are active, tough fish and can be bossy but I think clowns of any species should be able to hold their own with no problem. I keep my pixy hawk with other semi-agressive fish: a damsel, saddleback clowns, sleeper gobies, a flagfin angel, neon dottyback and sixline wrasse. I'd avoid small, timid fish and (unless you're adding something more agressive than the hawk) add it to the tank last.

Did you have any trouble getting your 6 line to eat at first. Also what do you feed it. I was thinking about getting that to go with the flame.

I have my Flame hawkfish in with three other fish... only for a little while, until the grouper and puffer get bigger then they can go in my 75 gallon.
Currently Flame hawk fish with a Maroon Clown, a grouper... not sure which one, and a thin lined puffer. I also have a couple of pieces of coral in the tank that Louis loves to sit on.
Louis was in the tank when I took it from a friend, when I added the other fish he was very aggresive towards them for the first day. ( Bumping into mainly the grouper, until he told the Flame to f off ) Now everyone is happy and healthy.
How big is your flame hawkfish? Here is a pic on mine about 2 and a little inches.

Sixlines are pigs - if they're not eating at the LFS I wouldn't buy them, something's wrong.
I feed my fish mysis, shrimp, plankton, brine, spirulina brine, Cyclop-eeze, live mussels, several types of dried seaweed and Hikari Marine 'A' and 'S' pellets - basically as much of a variety as possible.
A sixline and a flame hawkfish should get along just fine, they're both semi-agressive so be cautious if you're adding other fish after these two.

My hawk is may 2 inches at the most. I am still undecided about what to get to go with the percula and flame. I am going to look tommorrow.
