Hayden's 29

My 11 year old son Hayden caught the bug for a reef tank two month ago. Using his savings, some old equipment and LOT'S of hard work doing chores he came up with a pretty well equipped tank. He even built the stand with my help. After buying salt and lights his next purchase was "The Package" from Richard.

I must admit that I steered him to Tampa Bay Saltwater and paid for the air freight to Colorado but heck I had almost as much fun as he did.

Pickup from SouthWest at DIA was easy. Hayden was so excited!

Three boxes in part one. One sand and two of rock.

First three rocks along with the hitchhiker little shrimps, little cuc, and blenny were pretty cool. Hayden was well entertained for the seven days it took for the amonnia to get back down.

Part Two

Part Two

Every day after school Hayden would check his water and ask if Richard had sent any e-mails. Richard did check in with us several times asking how things were going and letting Hayden know that he had gone diving and found some cool things. After a week Hayden was more than ready for Part Two.

Here is what Hayden got...

Thanks Richard!

Nothing makes me happier as when kids get interested in marine life......as they are the future.

And pat on your back Dad for rewarding all his hard work.

Yall did well with that tank, looks just like my aquaculture site!!

That turkey wing clam is looking happy on that rock, great filter feeders.

(I am thinking that he needs better lights than a Marineland double brights)

and my wife was so thrilled by Hayden's tank that she went shopping on Craig's list two days latter and bought an established 75 for the living room:

She loves the corals, Rose tip, pair of clowns, tang, and other fish but there is no CUC and she is asking when I can replace the rock.

Oh my!

Hayden's tank looks awesome! Love that clam.
And wow, now the whole family is involved. How cool.

Thanks Dennis. Hayden will take that as a high compliment! He spent lots of time looking at pictures of your tank while he was earning the $$ for the rock.

Tonight we get part two for the 75 gal tank that my wife picked up! I will start a new thread in the next couple days.
