I know it's quite a ways off but I thought I'd post this so everyone knows when it's taking place this summer--June 23, 24 & 25--since it's earlier than last year. I think there were 4 of us from the club went last year (kass, silver charlie, firebird & me), it was a lot of fun! (My dog thought so too!)

I got an email from one of the organizers, I'm posting it so you guys also have the details. It was 2 days (Sat & Sun) last year. This year they are adding Friday afternoon, dedicated to additional Aquaculture Facility tours so they can be an hour. (They were only about 1/2 hour last year, not nearly enough time to take everything in! :)) There also weren't a ton of people selling frags last year, but since that was the first time nobody knew how much demand there'd be for them. I think most people sold everything they brought, so I'm sure there will be a lot more people bringing stuff to sell this year now that they know what it's all about. The F&S staff that worked the event were WONDERFUL, they made it even more enjoyable to be there!

Here's the email, I will pass along more info as I get it...

Dear Michelle,

I am proud to announce that Drs. Foster and Smith are gearing up to host our second annual Coral Conference & Frag Swap. We would like to invite you and your club members to participate and join us for this event which is scheduled from Friday June 23rd through Sunday June 25th in Rhinelander, WI.

The goal of this coral conference is to bring together hobbyists and professionals in order to trade, sell, and swap coral frags, as well as learn and exchange ideas among one another. The plans are to have various activities scheduled throughout the weekend. There will be speaker sessions from some of the industry's most respected professionals who will cover various subjects pertaining to Aquaculture, the hobby, and other relevant topics. In addition, we will provide tours of both our aquaculture coral facility as well as our hard good pet supplies call center and distribution center in Rhinelander. Raffles will be incorporated throughout the weekend with some magnificent door prizes, and lunch will be catered courtesy of Drs. Foster & Smith for all participants of this event. We will also have some of the more popular cleanup crew items, live rock, and corals as well as supplies available for purchase at our Retail Outlet Store.

We are hoping to obtain a commitment from you and your club to support and attend this inaugural event. Our plans will be finalized and more details will be forwarded on to you and your club within the next few weeks. A thread on Reef Central will be started in the coming weeks as well in order to invite all hobbyists and enthusiasts to participate in this event. We look forward to hearing back from you, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me directly by email at denise.pickering@liveaquaria.com or by phone at (715) 369-3305 ext. 400. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Thanks Michelle,

I was sooooooooo glad I went at the last minute last year.
Whoever can make it you won't be sorry.
It was really cool to see the aquaculture facility and as Nellie said the staff was great.
They gave away a ton of prizes last year to and it was cheap to get in.

i think i will for sure go this year. how much was is to get in and did anyone listen to any speakers?also did they have any big discounts lol Thanks Andrew

I didn't go to any speakers, I think it was around $20/person for the speakers including dinner. Not positive about that though.

It was only $5/person for the swap part (for the whole weekend) to get in if you weren't selling. With that you got lunch on Sat, donuts/juice on Sun morning, admisission to the swap & tours, and an extra 15% off in the outlet/retail store. Also, if you bought any frags at the swap, they packaged them up nicely in bags & coolers. Also got a tote bag full of goodies including a t-shirt, beach towel, and various samples/chemicals, and some raffle tickets. You could use those tickets to enter drawings for different things, they gave away a bunch of stuff, grand prize was a full tank set-up.

I think if people sold it was only $10 or $15 more, that included a 10g tank that they could keep.

We went last year and had a great time. Did not bring any frags but this year for sure we are. As Kass stated the aquaculture facility was really cool (the skimmer they have in use is awesome). Goodie bag was the best I have ever received and the discount on merchandise was great, gave the springs on my car a workout with all the salt I bought!
Really looking forward in attending this years swap and doing the whole thing this year. Last year we only did the $5 package and was way worth it.

Yep I wana go. Have to wait to see whats going on if anything yet. And see what the better half thinks but I am pretty sure it would be OK.

I am probably going to go to this. I am going to help out one of my farming buddies. Do not know if I will bring anything myself.

I just booked a hotel room for Saturday so I'm going.
I know last year our campground was turning people away to stay and I don't think any were at the conferance lol so want to be prepaired this year.

Hope to see you guys there!

Last year they had the swap Saturday morning. I think it started at 9 am.
I would like to go Friday but if I bring corals to swap like xenia that's just too long to sit in a bag if they stay until Sunday.

It was only 2 days last year so who knows how theyre going to do it this year.
Last year was swap and speakers on Sat. and tours on Sunday.
The tours were really worth staying and going to.

Personally I think it would be better if they had the swap in the afternoon.

Kass,
You booked your hotel already? Did you get the Foster & Smith rate? I know last year when looking fore a place they were all full untill I mentioned it was for Foster & Smith.....then they all had rooms reserved with special rates.....May want to check into it!

Jeff

By the way....I'm planning to go again this year myself, It was a great time had by all and would not miss it. Great people, staff, deals and plenty of eye candy....save some cash or bring the credit card!

Well NOW you tell me lol.
I just thought I'd get ahead of the game this year and book it.
No I did'nt ask for a special rate just booked it online because I assumed they'd fill up fast for that weekend.

I just came across the thread for the swap this year.
The prices did go up to $10 per person for basic and $25 for traders.
Heres the link that should explain it all.

I'm all signed up....doing the dinner and both tours. 2pm Sat for the frag Farm and 11AM Sun for the warehouse. Still need to find a place to stay...Wife wont camp!

Kass and all,
They are having early set up this year on Friday night from 6-9 p.m. and then Sat. morning before the swap. I am going to set up Friday night and then get there Sat. and be all set to go. I just hope that all my frags are still there on Sat. when I get there!

I just signed up, we're doing the swap & coral tour (11am) on Saturday, not staying for Sunday this time. (Darn, no donuts for the dog! ;)) Not doing the dinner & speakers though.

There seems to be rooms left at several hotels (at least for Friday night). I reserved at AmericInn, they have a special Foster & Smith rate of $69/night for Dbl Queen (normally $85). Hotel is less than a mile from F&S, and takes pets. And the lady who helped me was VERY friendly and helpful! :)

I also called Comfort Inn & Super 8, both had availability. Comfort was $86/night, Super 8 $76. Last summer we stayed at the Best Western, I wouldn't really recommend that place. It's downtown so kind of a pain to get to and not as close as the others, and has a small parking lot (in case you plan to bring a boat or something. We had to park at a house because there was no room to park with a boat in their parking lot. Very strange.).

I got an email this morning that I had to choose a different time slot for the tour, they are adding in a class at 11am on Saturday instead. I asked what it is, sounds interesting!

"The class is a fragging class given by Julian Sprung of Two Little
Fishies. It will most likely be a demonstration followed by Q&A. We are
figuring that this will be a little under 1 hour."

I booked mine at the Holiday Inn express online and it was 68.00 plus tax so came to around $74 for 2 queen beds.

They are less than a mile from it also. Its the place we finally got the right directions from last year when we couldnt find Dr. Fosters for over an hour lol.

I have the hotel but didnt get tickets yet lol I did'nt know when to pick the tour.

This event is coming up pretty quick, everyone have their shopping lists ready?! :) I am really looking forward to the swap, hopefully I'll pick up some cool new corals. And it will be nice to shop in the outlet with a discount again too! Last time we realized we needed some T5 bulbs about 2 weeks after we were there, so we had to pay full price plus shipping, we should have thought ahead a little more. Oh well. Pablo is hoping there will be donuts so Kass can give him another one ;)
