brand new to hobbie/ lifestyle and wondering what all this is about

Lishoop6,
Basically what fragging is about is it is a way of getting corals without taking them from the reef. A "frag" is a small piece of coral (Frag=fragment) that is either cut, broken or acquired when a coral drops a bud. That piece is then attached (sometimes) to a piece of something (live rock rubble or a frag plug) to act as a base. Frags are then traded or sold to other hobbyists.
The coral frag is then grown out into a new colony.

There are also commercial operations doing the same thing both indoors (Aquaculture) and in the ocean (Mariculture).

What the frag swap is, is a gathering of fellow hobbyists to buy, sell or trade frags. It is a great way to get new specimens and learn about the hobby in general.

I hope this gives you sort of an idea on what fragging is about.
If I have left anything out I am sure that others on the forum will chime in (I hope)!

Just thought I would give this thread a bump seeing as that the swap is only a little over a week away.

Can we get a list going here on who is attending the dinner Sat. night? Would be nice if we could get together at the same table the club members who are going.

How about a sticky on this thread till after the swap?

I will be going to the dinner with my wife and two kids! were staying at the Americ-Inn on Sat night, Will see you all there!

I 2nd the sticky

We are going to the swap but NOT the dinner/speakers. We are also staying at AmericInn (but on Friday night only). No kids, just the husband and Pablo. Ok, maybe that makes 1 kid. I'll let you decide which one that is. :D

And I PMd a mod to get this stickied, he's usually pretty quick about it so he'll get that taken care of for us.

For those of you attending the frag swap I have just received an email from Kevin Kohen that they will have a limited number of sealed 45 pound boxes of premium Fiji LR available at the swap for $150 per box. He said they would have 20 boxes shipped for sure but could get more shipped in if he knew in advance that they would sell.
It does not sound like you are going to be able and open up the boxes and sort through them though.
If interested PM me a.s.a.p. and I will have him set boxes aside.

I wonder if they will have more cleaner crew available this year. That's one thing I thought was missing last year. We could use a lot of snails & hermits again, don't have nearly enough right now.

my father inlaw and i will be there sat spending the night. we will be going to the dinner and the speakers and the tour on sunday

I'll be at the swap but not the dinner.
Were (hubby, kid and kids friend) staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Sat. night.

I have a ticket....

BUT,

I am really not sure if I am going.... a 4 hour drive is bad enough, with gas at 3 bucks. BUT, I had a place to stay for free, and that fell through. Now I don't even have a hotel. If someone would let me sack out with my sleeping bag on their hotel room floor, I would go... or even split a room.... I hate to pay 80 bucks for a room I will be in for 8 hours.

I would also like to find someone to drive with...

If anyone is interested in sharing room or driving, let me know. I live in Milwaukee.

Hey guys and ladies be sure to say hi I'll be running the free raffles next to the MASNA booth. The number of attendees signed up is double last year and traders 6X.

ATTENTION ALL FVRC MEMBERS ATTENDING DINNER SAT. NIGHT......
Stop by my trader spot on Sat. if you are interested in sitting at the same table for the dinner Sat. so we can get some type of game plan.

Even if you are not going to the dinner Sat. night stop by and say "hi".
See you all then!
