Healing a Bleached Montipora

I have a Montipora cap that I bleached out by placing it under my lighting with out acclimating it to the light. It is not a cal, alk, mag problem because those are perfectly stable for along time. All other sps corals are great growing and have color.

The monti has good polyp extension still and was growing well while bleached but is really just about white now with a slight pink.

What should I do with it now? Place it in a shaded area with low flow? Will it turn brown while healing? Or will it go back to red?

Please give me some advice on how to heal it please.

Does anyone know if it will turn brown first or color up??

Come on there has to be some real experiences here on bleached sps corals on the sps forum.

I got a green cap from lfs for $2 because. It was white. Put it mid tank and it had color in 2 days and growth in a week. I also got a purple one 2 days ago for $5 it was brown but now half is turning purple. Also mid depth under 7 rows of leds and 8 t5 bulbs

It should not turn brown. One of twp things will hapen. The coral will turn back to its orginal color, or it will die. I have had a similar issue when I added GFO to my tank way back when and used the manufactures recommendations and my monti bleached over night. So I tested my H2O and KH,PH,MG,Ca,PO4.... were all in line. I stoped the GFO and cut my lighting down by a half (just my MH) just incase something else was going on (lighting). I would say within 2 months the coral started to pink up again. I know a long process! Your monti will adapt in time, and try not to move it anymore. I attatched a picture of my montipora that was white and is now thriving, its about 24 inches wide. Hope this helps.

Well thanks for the responces. I have had this monti for like 3-4 months and it bleached almost immead. after placement. I have never moved it. It has grown on the rock even though it was bleached. Has strong polyp extension. he polyps on top of the coral are light pink almost white, under neath the polyps are bright red.

It will get deeper red. If you make the right move you will see progessive improvement from day 2 or 3. Put it in a semi shaded zone. I have done it many times with red caps
