heat question (duh its florida)

I would think you would want to stay below 83. I even think that is a little hot. But diffrent corals may be more or less tolerant.

Let's see what others think!

Keeping temps below 80* is ideal. But corals can learn to tolerate the higher temps. I've seen up to 84*, but you'll want to keep that water moving with good current for oxygen exchange.

my former tank used to be a constant 82 degrees and I had no problem with any of my coral, including sps. I have heard of people doing ok with 83. My understanding is that 84 is starting to get to the upper limit.

I kknow ryan keeps his at 86 ... so ya mine is never under 80 and has been fine so lol... But i want to keep it under 86, I dont know how hot its gonna get you know?

Don't know if this helps but here's my high temp experience: I kept a pico tank in a room that I closed off from the ac and it got to the mid 80s every day all summer and nothing died. It also lived without a heater in the winter. Also, I acclimated a bunch of softies and lps in a bucket where the heater sensor was above the water link and it took the water up to 90+ degrees for an hour and nothing died. Smelled like something was cooking though =(

78-84 --- my BTA so far has been happy in that range too. The theory used to be lower temps but from what I've read now, as long as you don't keep it at say 74 then it skyrockets to 86, you should be fine.

ok, lets think about this, most of these corals come from.....hmmmm South Pacific temps ranging in the summer season well into the 90s reaching 100s f, Caribbean hi 80s low 90s....etc they can with stand warm temps as long as it is steady my tank 84 day 86 night never ever had a problem with the temps in this range.

college429, FWIW, the ones at DF&S are the zoo brand which are a cheaper knockoff and burn up quickly so I've been told.
