Heat!!

Well, I guess I stand corrected. (I'm not above that like some people on RC)
I have never heard of that before, and yes; I've actually looked...

HOWEVER you had better make sure that ALL your corals and fish are from that region and can handle those temps.

Do a serach on RC (IF you can) and see how many people have lost corals and fish at those temps.. There's a lot.

I'd bet if you made a thread on the SPS forum that said
"Tank hit 89 today, why are all my corals bleaching and dying?"
The first response would be "DUH, TEMP TOO HIGH!?!?!"

I've watched stuff on Science Channel that talks about 1 deg changes wiping out acres of coral fields.

But I guess there are regions and corals that can take the temp abuse.

Reef animals from all but the coldest regions can tolerate those conditions. People lose their corals to temp fluctuations and slightly higher than normal temps because they don't allow them to fluctuate normally. Stable temps reduce the ability of their animals to cope with the otherwise normal changes.

The 1 degree temp changes that cause bleaching are long term (weekly or longer) increases above the normal maximum, not short term fluctuations around the normal range.

I fluctuate between 80 and 84 consistantly with no problems. Don't have a lot of corals yet but a couple softies and they are thriving.
