Heater blew up - acros paled

hey all,

so recently i had my stealth heater blow up in my 120 gal. i was home when it happened so i think i caught it in time but all of my acros and montis have bleached or paled. it looks like almost all of them still have flesh attached and all of them for sure have polyps still. i was wondering if anyone has dealt with this before or has any idea on how to get them to recover the quickest.
i have already done 2 %30 wc's and am running loads of carbon with a pura pad to pull out any heavy metals.
should i cut my light cycle back or keep it at the same times? right now it is
actinics 10hrs. (4x ati and uvl t5's)
halides 4 hrs. (2x250w radiums in lumenmax pendants)
all other params or in line that i can check for.

any help would be appreciated.
thank joe

I had the same thing happen a while back. All acros paled a bit, but then everything came back fine. It took about 4-5 weeks for me to get the colors completely back to normal. After I noticed the problem, I did a few water changes and changed carbon a few times and used polypads. Good luck.

As soon as I saw the thread title I knew it was a Stealth. Everybody should pull these ticking timebombs out of their tanks now. There are so many threads out there on this.

who's the manufacturer? I just install two 200w Hydor's last week and research them. They seem well built. IMHO, I would only use them for max 2-years and then pull them and use in WC containers. I don't think there is an ideal hobby grade heater that last long ime.

Marineland makes the Stealth.

I've been using Hydors for about 3 years with no problems. They replaced my Stealth which was causing me to get shocked when my arm was in the tank.

honestly i've had problems with every heater out there. it seems like the best ones for me were the titaniums. ive heard alot of good things out ehiem jagers tho. anyone have experience with these?

that is all I use. They last several years and when they fail its never been in the on position unlike cheaper heaters. Use two (or three) smaller ones and you'll know when your 1 degree off low one needs replacing.

Well what heater is the best of the best?

cause i've used hydor and had them fail/quit after 6 months and pretty much anything the jacks or pets mart carry's has done the same to me

i have 2 stealths now that have been good for about 8 months but dont want to test my luck anymore,

so what is the best option for a heater that can heat 250 gallons and last 10 years?
