Heater / Chiller Question.

Hello everyone,

I got my tank wet over the weekend and the chiller installed. Just wondering how everyone regulates their water temperature so it stays consistent?

I had my heater set at 25 degrees and the chiller at 25 degrees but would find the chiller coming on at 26 degrees. Before I left for work this morning I kept the heater at 25 degrees and set the chiller at 26 degrees so it will kick in at 27 degrees.

Is there a better way to manage it? Here in Australia we will be heading into winter in few months so the chiller shouldn't need to come on often.

Get a dual stage temperature controller. Set the controller temperature points you want (personally, I set the heat a degree below the target, and the chiller a degree above - keeps them from cycling on and off all the time). Then set your actual heater a couple of degrees higher, and your chiller a couple of degrees lower. The dual controller will keep the temp constant, and in the event ot fails, the heater/chiller won't kill your tank before you notice the problem.

+1, a 2-3 degree swing daily is not a problem. You want your set points a few degrees from each other or your energy costs are going to be large.

So say if I want my ideal temperature at 25 degrees, I should set as follows

Controller
Heater "“ 24 degrees
Chiller "“ 26 degrees

Actual
Heater "“ 26 degrees
Chiller "“ 24 degrees

This may be silly question but if the chiller is off, can water still be pushed through it? My current setup is return pump -> chiller -> display tank

Yes (IMO, on the settings), and yes (water still goes through your chiller, whether it is "on" or not).
