heater malfunction.. please help!

Long story short my heater exploded in my tank. The water turned a murky brown, my rocks covered in a blackish slime (I'm assuming from the dead tree corals and aiptasia I had been fighting) and my brown tang didn't make it. I moved my clowns and anemone into a 10 gallon tank with part contaminated water and part fresh salt water (didn't want to do all fresh, afraid I would cause more damage). Hosed the slime off one of the rocks and put it in the other tank to give the fish to hide behind. I know I need to start my tank over, but how do I keep the clowns and anemone alive in this 10 gallon without the water cycling while I'm waiting for my big tank to go through its cycling phase again?

Dr. Tim's makes a quick cycling bacteria we use at my LFS for customers who got ahead of themselves, or for unexpected hiccups. I have used it several times (tank crash and tank bust) with good results. Still have to test often but it keeps the ammonia and nitrite at safer levels. And finish's a cycle in about a week. Sorry for you loss. Good luck!

I would find a lfs and buy a few pounds of live rock and add it to the 10g while you are waiting for the cycle.

Frequent testing of the water in the 10g will go along way. I would get a bottle of seachem prime to help take care of ammonia issues and keep plenty of water on hand for water changes. You may have more o a problem with the nem than the clownfish. Nem's like good stable parameters. good luck
